Why?

Why bring body awareness & movement practices into NVC, and NVC into Contact Improvisation?

“Taking part at the retreat Embodying NVC through Movement and Flow in Austria was for me a tremendous lift from verbal NVC expression and at the same time deepening my understanding of its principles. How does human body observe, feel, ask and react. Finally words become like the simplest step once you understand the movement in and of your body. The embodiment brings freedom and opens possibilities of verbal communication to become more authentic and natural. With the loving support and expertise of Sarah Beckmann and Robert Kržišnik the process became something that I believe every NVC practitioner would find as beneficial on their path to better understanding and co-creation of this miracle of life.” Jana Burger, Slovenia/Germany

“What I had been trying to understand mentally without success, revealed itself in this process, with ease and clarity. Through this work a very powerful chain of changes has been awakened in me.” Leila

“This approach provides lived experiences of NVC concepts and processes, and enables us to do deep work.” Helen Adamson (Certified CNVC trainer Spain / USA)

“Thank you for this gift.  Through this workshop I gained a physical understanding of the interdependence that we human beings live in. I also physically realized the universality of feelings and needs and that I could connect to them through my body. It was an experience that made me see the beauty around me and the beauty of life. ” Suso

“I feel grateful and present. With this work and journey I could enter into a wonderful connection with my body, soul and spirit. I realized that the beauty of life is expressed through me and my being. The combination of Dance/ Movement and NVC opened for me a new way to connect to life.” Anna

“My experience of the workshop of Robert and Sarah in Embodying NVC through Movement and Flow was a true exploration of the world within; emotions, feelings, needs. Whatever was explored during the NVC sessions through the field of communication was later explored through the physical in the CI dance. We explored the dance of communication and the communication of the dance. I loved it!” Vesna Klemencic, Slovenia/Austria

“It supported me to have an embodied experience of key NVC concepts such as presence, choice, authenticity and self-connection. I found the experience rich and deeply rewarding.” Kathleen MacFerran, CNVC Certified Trainer, USA

In these retreats we will:

  • awaken our bodies to presence, movement and aliveness through basic elements of Contact Improvisation
  • cultivate our capacities for deep listening, receptivity, empathy, freedom and authentic expression
  • be invited to see what emerges when we dive into our embodiment, switch off our minds and let go of control
  • receive ourselves and each other empathically, with our bodies and with our hearts
  • fully celebrate and mourn Life that flows through us
  • embody authentic presence through deep honesty – emotionally, physically, and in movement
  • enter into the play of moving together

With NVC (Nonviolent Communication) we explore our relationships, as well as the very essence of our experience of human existence. Finding and living our deepest authenticity, connecting with others and with life from our deepest selves and vulnerability, and opening to soul-level intimacy… these are all closely connected with the spirit of NVC.

While it can be very profound to explore those qualities through our minds and emotions, a whole new universe of awareness and integration opens up when we fully include our bodies and their movements.[expand title=”more…”] Our bodies, which have been so well domesticated and trained throughout our socialization, become incredible guides when given freedom and awakened to authentic movement.

Through the portal of our body we connect deeply with our innate wisdom, our heart’s deepest longings, and what is truly alive in us. From here we can express ourselves, our deep truths, both verbally and non-verbally, with eloquence, truth, authenticity and freedom.[/expand]

Movement and physical abilities

Although this is an “NVC retreat” and will incorporate processing and sharing in pairs, small groups and the large group, a central aspect of the retreat will be body movement exploration. There will be lots of movement and touch… There is no requirement for you to be a dancer, an athlete, or fit in any particular way, yet it is essential for you to have a willingness to explore these realms of life – movement, improvisation, making physical contact with others, and entering into the dance of NVC in Movement and Flow.

Simple Contact Improvisation movement practices will be integrated with more ‘traditional’ NVC practices. Each of these movement practices are contributed as offers and requests – your participation is entirely consent based. How you move and the extent of your movement and touch is your choice and is based on what is authentic within you at any given time.

‘you only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves’ – Mary Oliver

No prior experience with Contact Improvisation is required, however if you would enjoy to experience Contact Improvisation before the retreat, classes and jams are held regularly in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Byron Bay, Newcastle, Brisbane, Perth, and major NZ cities – search for Contact Improvisation Facebook groups in your area for event notifications

The retreats assumes a basic understanding of NVC. We recommend that you complete 1- 2 days NVC training with an experienced trainer before the retreat. If this is difficult for you please talk to us about options.
